Hey People!

Been very busy over the past few months in the studio and gigging. Here are some of the projects I’ve been working on that are due to show up over the next few months.

Thrush Hermit – Complete Recordings- 8 DISC BOX SET- to be released on New Scotland. An epic project. Scrambling madly to get it together for the Hermit reunion tour in March (fingers crossed).

Disc 1- Clayton Park

Disc 2- Sweet Homewrecker

Disc 3- Smart Bomb and The Great Pacific Ocean

Disc 4 – All Technology Aside – 22 songs – outtakes, b-sides and unreleased

Disc 5 – Hits and Giggles – 23 songs – early singles and eps and unreleased tracks

Disc 6 – Embarrass Ourselves Awake – hodge podge of really early material from Nabisco Fonzie, The Hoods, The Hermit and The Tim Robbins Experience. Truly embarrassing stuff to keep you awake on long drives

Discs 7 & 8 – Two DVDs consisting of Learn to Party documentary (1999) and lots of extra never before seen footage from 1990- 1999

Also includes a 32 page booklet with lots of photos and liner notes written by Rob Benvie.

Steve Poltz – “Dreamhouse”. Will be out in May 4th on New Scotland both on cd and vinyl. Steve’s tunes are incredible. Psychedelic and personal, hilarious and heartbreaking. Steve rocked most of his guitar and vocals in first takes. Amazing! Produced & recorded at Scotland Yard. I played drums and bass. Steve just broke his hand skiing but he’ll be back with a vengeance soon.

David Myles- “Turn Time Off” due out on April 20th on Turtlemusik. I had a great time producing this record at Scotland Yard and we mixed it at Flying Blanket in Arizona with my good friend Bob Hoag (who recorded Ladeda). David’s tunes are smooth and super singable and it’s my most hi-fi production work yet if I do say so myself . His band kicks ass too.

Jeremy Fisher and Joel Plaskett- a month ago we recorded two songs we wrote together for a 7″ single on New Scotland. Still waiting to be mixed but aiming for a release in the spring

that’s the latest! back to work.

Workin Workin Workin

Long time no post. The huge staff here at New Scotland Records has been so busy with all the 7″ singles flying out of the warehouse that it’s overwhelming. Here’s the latest from the Scotland Yard. Along side playing shows, I’ve been producing a record for Steve Poltz called Dreamhouse that if all goes as planned should be out on New Scotland in Canada in the spring. Steve’s an amazing songwriter, guitar player and entertainer. It’s been an epic project I’m proud to have worked on it. I played the bass and drums, Jenn Grant sings on a song or two, and Bill Stevenson and David Myles are also in the fray. Speaking of David Myles, I’ll be producing his next record for him starting in November at the Scotland Yard. Due for another batch of singles sometime soon. Started some tunes with Matthew Grimson… just gotta finish em. Call me Matt! Wish the day had 40 hours. Lots going on and more to come.

All set to begin recording his next album with Ian McGettigan, romantic Toronto soul man Peter Elkas has just released a sweet little harbinger of great things to come with “Poor Young Things.”

A songwriting collab with his Emergency band leader Joel Plaskett, “Poor Young Things” is the A-side for one of the first seven-inch singles out on Plaskett’s New Scotland Records (the B-side “Repeat Offender” is a cool, Keith Richards-style jam worth checking out too). Elkas showed up at Plaskett’s Scotland Yard home studio with a fragment of the song-in-progress and the brothers-from-other-mothers hashed out a cool, infectious tune that speaks to classic ideals of rock ‘n’ roll camaraderie. Glory days indeed!

They’re also available online at Maplemusic and digital versions of the singles will be available on Itunes and Zunior shortly. Dave Marsh’s True Love Rules still rules and is distributed in Canada by Fontana North.
