The True Love Rules (CD)

The debut album from the legendary Halifax drummer for the Emergency, Superfriendz, Black Pool and The Only Alternative (UK). Dave’s songs are both timeless and well timed. A certified classic for fans of Bowie, Willie Nelson, The Kinks, The La’s and Guided By Voices.

“First we lied and then we stole

Then someone murdered rock n’ roll”

Joel’s Notes

The first time I saw Marsh play was in 1990 when his band No Damn Fears played the Green Room at Dalhousie. I still remember them singing “this is the worst it’s ever been, buy my records from the bargain bin…”. I was 15 years old. I eventually met Dave in 1993 and watched Bad Lieutenant at his place with Chris Murphy. In 1998 we started playing together in the earliest incarnation of the Emergency, a five piece band that also included Charles Austin, Andrew Glencross and Tracy Stevens. In 1999 we went to CMJ in NYC in my 1969 Pontiac Parisienne and had one of the more memorable trips of my life. In 2007, Dave had been rocking the drums in the Emergency for almost 10 years and it was most definitely time to document some of his songs. This was before the Scotland Yard, so we set up shop in my basement and recorded some drums, bass and guitars. We finished this record at Charles Austin’s Echo Chamber studio. Many great and legendary Halifax musicians showed up to add their two cents to Dave’s tunes. Timmy Brennan. Mike Lewis, Drew Yamada, Matt Murphy, Charles Austin, Adam Baldwin, David Myles, Bill Stevenson, Paul Boudreau. I’m really proud to have worked on this record with Dave. His music is classic and timeless, so it’s time you went to class.
